Challenges FAQ

Common questions about ranking, retries, leaderboards, and how challenges connect to labs, quizzes, and projects.

Do I need an account to start a challenge?

You can preview challenges without an account, but to submit, earn XP, and appear on the leaderboard you need to be signed in. Sign-in is free.

How are challenges different from labs?

Labs are open-ended hands-on environments. Challenges are timed, scored, and ranked — they often run on top of a lab, quiz, or project.

How does ranking work?

Each challenge has a ranking mode (POINTS, TIME, or hybrid). Faster, more accurate submissions score higher. Featured boards reset on schedule.

Can I retry a challenge?

Most challenges allow retries up to a limit. Your best result is kept for the leaderboard and your dashboard.

What happens when a challenge ends?

Time-boxed challenges close on their end date. The final leaderboard is preserved, and badges and XP for top finishers are awarded automatically.

Can I submit my own challenge?

Community challenges are reviewed by editors before publishing. Reach out via the contact form if you would like to propose one.
