Password Management and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Password Management:
Strong, unique passwords are a fundamental aspect of cyber hygiene. Best practices include:
- Using Complex Passwords: Combine uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Avoid using easily guessed terms like “password123.”
- Avoiding Reuse: Use different passwords for each account to minimize risks if one password is compromised.
- Changing Passwords Regularly: Periodically updating passwords, especially after potential breaches, adds an extra layer of security.
- Using Password Managers: Tools like LastPass or Bitwarden securely store and generate complex passwords.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA):
MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring two or more verification steps. Common MFA methods include:
- Something You Know: A password or PIN.
- Something You Have: A physical token or mobile device.
- Something You Are: Biometrics, such as fingerprints or facial recognition.
MFA significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access, even if a password is compromised.
