Overview of Cybersecurity Frameworks
Cybersecurity frameworks are structured sets of guidelines, best practices, and standards designed to help organizations manage cybersecurity risks effectively. They provide a comprehensive roadmap for protecting systems, networks, and data. Commonly referenced frameworks include:
- NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF): Developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the NIST CSF outlines five core functions: Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover.
- ISO/IEC 27001: An international standard for establishing and maintaining an information security management system (ISMS).
- COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies): Focuses on governance and management of enterprise IT.
- CIS Controls: A prioritized list of security measures developed by the Center for Internet Security.
Each framework emphasizes the critical role of cryptography in securing sensitive information, safeguarding identities, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
