Understanding Cyber Threats
Cyber threats refer to malicious activities aimed at compromising the security, functionality, or data of digital systems. These threats can target individuals, organizations, and governments, exploiting vulnerabilities to achieve malicious objectives. Cyber threats are categorized based on their origin, intent, and methodology, which include:
- External Threats: Originating outside an organization, such as hackers, criminal syndicates, or nation-state actors.
- Internal Threats: Posed by insiders such as employees, contractors, or partners, whether intentionally or unintentionally.
- Accidental Threats: Resulting from human error, such as misconfigurations or unintentional exposure of sensitive data.
Understanding cyber threats is the first step in building an effective defense strategy, as it enables identification and mitigation of potential risks.
